im pretty sure that this is the shortest period of time that i have ever spent in nicaragua. mission: to throw the first annual earthship pitaya music festival. mission accomplished and much more!
the vision for the earthship pitaya festival is to connect the local population with visiting tourists through art and music. the festival is a platform to feature local artists and inspire the children, while raising awareness for sustainable living and education within the carizal. through our volunteer programs and community outreach projects, we hope to cultivate a disarming mutual respect between visitors and locals thus providing the foundation for lasting friendships within the local community.
the day entailed various activities. music, yoga, sunshine, local culture, food and dancing under a full moon. the response was overwhelming, and by the end of the night i had heard “at next years fest” at least 20 times. of the many joys of the night, one of the biggest was airing a video that i shot a couple months prior for international beach cleanup day with all of the children of the carizal. the video was played on the stage on a huge screen, and for most of the children was the first time ever seeing themselves on screen, and now in front of a mass audience. the looks on their faces were priceless and heartwarming. all the more motivation to get “3rd world films” off the ground. ;)
the rest of the week in san juan was spent with a huge team of about 20 whom also came to support and work the festival. we partied and played hard! bonfires, surfing, dancing, surfing, bonfires, dinners and more dinners. a well deserved week of celebration!

6 weeks of playing Razia’s Shadow.

i spent a lovely day in seattle taking some promo photo’s of Thomas Dutton, the singer of my new band Forgive Durden. we wanted these to have a different look than the usual “band guy” photograph and went for more of the GQ guy look. on a plus side i got to shoot in what has become my 2nd home in seattle, which is a fabulous water front home full of love!
click on images to view the whole set.
photo’s from my shoot with This Providence are starting to show up here and there. below are some of the shots. it’s funny that the label chose to use my least favorite shot of the day and turned it into the print ad that has been showing up all over the place. not surprised.
click on any image to check out the entire session. DO IT,enjoy!!
The Fall. just got my blu ray copy today. likely to be my top 3 of the year. Tarsem is a genius.

it’s 4am, somehow through a series of post editing, online links I’ve ended up on half.com. my fav place to load up on books to add to the reading waiting list. if you’ve never tried that site I suggest it. used books for barely nothing. anyways, i just suckered myself into buying 6 books. 4 of which i found nice pretty pictures of. the other 2 rather obscure and so old there were no nice photo’s to display.

Kafka on the Shore - because I love Murakami.
Orthodoxy - A dear friend I trust greatly suggested this after our long discussion on faith becoming a choice after a certain point and the various kinds of “knowledge” we posses that are not necessarily logical.
Man’s Search For Meaning - Memoir of a holocaust survivor / brilliant psychiatrist / passionate human. Almost finished reading but left this book on a flight as I seem to do ever too often.
East of Eden - Read it. Lent it out, and it was never returned or heard of again. Re-ordered just to have it on the shelf.
I spent the day hanging with some rad dudes. Im currently in Seattle and had the pleasure of photographing promo’s for Fueled By Ramen/Atlantic Records band “This Providence”.good times were had. we bonded like boys do. we golfed. we sailed. we made art. and art is hard. at least that’s what i heard in a song once…
To say Seattle has treated me well would be an understatement. Lodging on the beach, courtesy of some lovely folk! Sunsets, sunrises on the water, blue angels flying, bangin pastry shops, themed bars, and poker/bowling/pool/hottub nights. To say the least, coming to and fro from Seattle for Forgive Durden practice won’t be too much trouble.

12:06am. Eco House Rainforest Terrace. Howler Monkey’s singing. Im Blogging.
this term “pura vida”. it has many a translation. contextually, it means “Full of Life” “Purified life”, “This is living!”, “Going great!” etc… some view it as an expression of a leisurely lifestyle or to express a philosophy of strong community, perseverance, good spirits, enjoying life slowly, celebrating good fortune, whether small or large. at the present moment all of the above will suffice.
I’m here in San Juan Del Sur with one of my best friends and a few other great people looking for the perfect getaway property and being pampered simultaneously. this is the first time i have been able to come to nica to simply enjoy and indulge in the beauties of this place and this culture. explorations, beautiful beach life, beautiful people, transforming into cowboy dave on the rain-forest ranches, 4 wheeling, monkey watching, fresh food, no phones…. this list stop’s only because of the late hour, this is amazing. God is good.
to be honest, I never seem to quite express experiences like this in their true magnitude. and silly i-phone photo’s and blogs certainly don’t quite sum it up! detaching oneself from the comforts of home and immersing into the cultures and beauties this world. especially the 3rd and 2nd “worlds”. the people, the feelings, the joys, ah! it just makes me so happy. I have come to the conclusion that it’s impossible to explain, you just have to do it for yourself to understand. just pack and go.
Still to come:
-Nicaraguan Independence day, which means huge local celebrations, horse shows, dancing and festivities!
-Taking Clint to the local casinos to tear up some poker.
—-> best of all. Surprising all the kids at casa betesda orphanage with this rad unscheduled visit.

Im headed back to Nicaragua in 3 days with Mr. Clint Stelfox. This time around it is more of a pleasure trip rather than for the kids. A few days on the crystal clear pacific coast should clear one’s mind.
In celebration Iv’e posted some old photo’s and a video from last December/Jan.
